ABOUT THE ARTIST
One can find a variety of endangered and extinct flora and fauna in my work. I combine regional animals with complementary trees, flowers and vines. Often I am inspired by the artworks of Audubon, Merian and Gould. A Chinoiserie influence frequently finds its way into my work as well. By slowly building layers of color with acrylic paint and gel medium, my imagery appears loose and soft while the tiny details applied in later stages mesmerize the viewer with thousands of brush strokes in a pattern or direction. The smooth solid backgrounds modernize the overall look and feel of each piece.
ABOUT THE ART
Exploring and studying species of flora and fauna provides me with the elements I need to put a composition together. I find these characters tell a story as they interact with each other and their environments. Additionally, I enjoy weaving my appreciation for the decorative arts into each piece.
