ABOUT THE ARTIST

My art appears light and sweet on the surface but beneath the waxy layers and scratchy textures lie deeper themes of loneliness and struggle. The fish I paint are an exploration and expression of my journey with chronic Lyme disease. Fish depicted in bags or bowls, balancing on rocks and in unexpected situations represent so many aspects of living in a chronically difficult situation and the isolation and limitations experienced at times,. They also represent resilience, hopefulness and possibilities. They are a reminder that you are not alone in your circumstance, that you are stronger than know, and that you can do hard things...just keep swimming.

ABOUT THE ART

I paint with oil and cold wax medium using a palette knife and other mark making tools on wood panels to create texture and layers using fish imagery and the bowls and bags that contain them. I seal my paintings with a layer of clear wax and buff to a satin sheen when dry.
