ABOUT THE ARTIST

While I am inspired by the things I see everyday on the drive to the studio or the drive to the next city for a show. Images of seemingly mundane landscapes speaks to me in their quiet intensity. Approaching the canvas sculpturally, using unconventional tools, I thickly layer on medium. Using oil, cold wax & gels, applying paint over and over again, wet on wet, allowing the image to develop organically. Then using a sgraffito style of mark making in the surface of the paint, I carve areas away. This exploration and excavation of the surface leads to the discovery of the color and story beneath while creating dynamic and energetic movement.

ABOUT THE ART

Oil paint and other mediums, including cold wax, gels and oil sticks are layered thickly on the canvas. The medium is stacked wet on wet, color upon color. The surface is then carved and scraped away to reveal underlying pigment and story. Abstract images emerge energetic and moody.
