ABOUT THE ARTIST
Birds and figures adopt similar poses in my work and gardens are another favorite subject. One unique technique I use is katazome, or Japanese stencil dyeing. I cut a stencil, spread a resist paste, paint the piece, and soak off the resist paste. I often glue the large pieces onto gessoed panels and varnish them. My work combines printmaking with painting and drawing. I love being an experienced artist and having so many techniques to draw upon for my work. I also make my own wood frames and panels.
ABOUT THE ART
I use acrylics, Flashe, woodcut, ink and pigments in my collages. I also make large paintings on paper using katazome, a paste-resist technique. I make a medium of soybeans to adhere pigments, a Japanese textile technique which once cured is as permanent as acrylic paint. I varnish my large work.
