ABOUT THE ART
I am a collector of objects. I incorporate them in every work I create. Some are clearly autobiographical: a single sea-worn oar, or an old Cuban cigar box filled with memories. Other objects, echo broader human concerns and remind me of the shared pull of our human history.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
In his art, Rey D'Alfonso finds resonance in motifs of water and the freedom they represent. It was in 1992, that he took to the waters in a daring escape from Cuba in a boat improvised from repurposed materials. His mixed media works are brightly hued reflections of his life's journey.
