Rey D'Alfonso

I spent my youth in Cuba as an inventor of machines and forager of materials to create them from. My foundation as a creative person came from my day to day activities like fishing, hunting and building modes of transport on an island that was forgotten by both its political allies and adversaries. The education that the system provided me, formally and through its prohibitions, formed the footing for my memories and my passion for generating unconventional beauty.

I am a collector of objects. My process allows me to continue in my fervent search for intriguing artifacts. As I travel through the world -be it in the old textile mills of my region or the street markets of Latin America- I am led by my instincts for compelling textures and objects that speak of the shared pull of our humanity.
