Ronnie Hughes

Laurel Springs

I have been a glass artist for 40 plus years, after a summer job "playing" with glass, I went headlong into this with a passion. I have been in many galleries, received Best in Show and other awards, in dozens of newspapers, had TV interviews, had a full feature on PBS UNC-TV in 2018, worked with Paul Stankard and Lucio Bubacco at Corning.Glass. I think simple moments that hit me the most intimately are when individuals respond with true appreciation, with the best when my work brings tears to their eyes, That is an honor I did not expect.

Nature is the source of my inspiration and I am a lover of our earth. Wildflowers coat our world with color and surprises and my sculptures continue to surprise me as I explore the issues of creating a new flower. Needless to say each element of flameworking - where you're in the unknown - bring challenges to the creative process since new structures have never been attempted before. There is no boundary to my possibilities and who wouldn't love that.
