Steve's artwork is known for for strong compositions using details to accurately capture animals and the natural world. Light, color, atmosphere and mood are also consistent elements in his artwork. Most pieces are rendered with acrylic paints, but frequently combines the paint with colored pencils or ink, For many years, Steve has been painting on Strathmore Archival HD illustration board, but for the past 2 years, he also has been working on large canvases.

Wildlife art has been the natural solution to Steve’s lifelong interest in doing art and learning about wildlife and nature. Personal experiences are his inspirations, whether the subject matter is fauna of North America or the diverse animals of Africa. Favorite paintings are the ones that challenge him the most. Good art doesn't necessarily need to take 50 or more hours to create, but most of Steve's most satisfying paintings have taken anywhere from 100 to 200 hours.
