I build thick and textured layers of color with hot, pigmented, encaustic wax. Then scrape, carve or reapply to reveal or conceal the unforeseen color below. Transparent and moody landscapes emerge.
ABOUT THE ART
My pieces are best described as moody and abstract landscapes. They are created by applying layers of wax which build up to create depth and transparency. I usually scrape through the layers to reveal areas of color hidden below the previous ones. I also scratch and carve the surface in select areas create texture. Often adding color back into the scarred surface giving each line character. The softness and inherent transparency of wax creates a dream-like finish.
