ABOUT THE ARTIST
Chris Curchin studied film and animation at PCA/UA earning a BFA in 1982. A self taught painter, he began painting in 1985. "Upheaval", his most recent exhibition, was a solo show at Boston St. Gallery in Dec.'22. He currently teaches art and music at a non-profit preschool in Philadelphia.
ABOUT THE ART
I paint with a technique I call sgrafitto. I use layers of slow drying oil glaze and scratch through to reveal colors beneath. The mark-making has elements of compulsion but also precision, randomness and abandon.
