ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a humble observer of our planet’s amazing pallet and I am deeply moved by nature the life within it. There is a need to express that passion and, for me, oil paint aids in that execution. Capturing light and the vibration between two colors while building the painting surface with loose, direct, and vibrant brushwork is my goal. And, capturing a gesture or object with as few strokes as needed is what I seek. There is something about this simplicity and the look of fresh wet paint that moves my artist soul.“
Stephen’s paintings are created from field studies, imagination and studio work using sketches and studio references. Larger paintings usually begin with a field study, then are translated to larger work. Some pieces are painted in the studio without a reference relying on experience and imagination.
