ABOUT THE ARTIST
I was brought up in England, and my family often visited the great museums and galleries in London. I remember losing myself, literally, in those places. It felt like home. My earliest training was at Chelsea School of Art, but I moved on to University College to study Humanities which seemed more marketable. But I kept sneaking back into the studio arts classes. My family moved to the states, and early promise gave way to reality and adulthood hit me like a freight train.
I put away this part of my soul like others put away old clothes for years while I taught art, created a family and worked full time. But after a couple of years my doodles grew back into drawings and paintings and I reached back into myself and opened up that box, and it all came flying out. I worked during the day and painted at night while the children slept, and I built my body of work. I started showing again in the early 2000’s at local outdoor festivals. My success grew and I pushed hard, determined never to lose my purpose again. I’ve been a professional artist now since 2010.
I find inspiration in living things. Birds, figure, flowers - anything that is alive and grows, and in my oil paintings I strive to express that vitality.
ABOUT THE ART
Rooted in Impressionism, my contemporary oil paintings feature lively birds, figures and animals in semi transparent, layered, glazed backgrounds. Although I love to draw, and draftsmanship is an integral part of my practice, my focus is on emotional expression over representation.
