ABOUT THE ARTIST

I draw my biggest inspiration from the strong female figures in my life. Women who are strong, smart, powerful, beautiful and rebellious; all standing against the tidal forces of the status quo. I pull from life stories, ancient myth, and pop culture to create the spark for figurative work. My artwork embodies those characters and stories and imagines them as homage of what they mean to me. I create the work keeping the clay and steel exposed to demonstrate simplicity of earth and metal. I will often build a sculpture as a whole and break it into pieces only to reassemble it at the end, leaving the exposed steel. My goal is to create a tension between the perfection and imperfection, ultimately showing the strength in the scars and the stories they tell.

ABOUT THE ART

I use stoneware clay often with integrated metal. My work is individually hand built, high fired and finished with oxide stains and glazes so the natural beauty of the clay and hand of the artist show. Many pieces incorporate hand polished and enameled high carbon steel that in the final assembly.
