ABOUT THE ARTIST

I am inspired by the natural world around me. My bird theme works approach a narrative about climate change and the decline of birds, who I consider the "canary in the coal mine" messenger. I use thread and fabric as my media because it is a fragile yet resilient material that mirrors the strength of our fellow avians. I use a free-motion technique for my black lines, literally drawing freehand with my sewing machine. I add hand embroidery for color and texture. I find used and repurposed toile and decor fabrics that have a scene for my narrative scenes.

ABOUT THE ART

My process begins with ink drawings that I translate with embroidery, appliqué, overlaying threads, and fabric. I used found fabrics for my subjects to interact with to tell their story.
