ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born and brought up in India, Rinal Parikh is a contemporary artist who creates paintings that integrate her native folk art. Her paintings are a celebration of nature, a celebration of life, and a celebration of colors. She enjoys incorporating different folk styles in her work, mainly Warli, Kalamkari, and Madhubani, as well as many unconventional materials. While working on storytelling paintings, she adapts Warli art as her style. Warli is one of the oldest forms of art and is mural art with basic vocabulary and earth tone color palette; it helps her bring out the colors of life through the stories. She uses a variety of things that nature offers, like sand, grass, twigs, and leaves, to name a few, to create a stucco-like texture on canvas. She then delivers her stories via acrylic paints. While painting birds and animals, her preferred styles are Kalamkari and Madhubani. Kalamkari is one of the most intricate styles, and Madhubani has the most vivid color palette. Together, these folk styles bring out Mother Nature's brilliance in her work. Her preferred medium for portraying birds and animals is gouache paint, which brings out the brilliance of colors. She uses handmade paper, which avails the textural element in her paintings.

ABOUT THE ART

Nature is what inspires my work. When working on canvas, I incorporate unconventional materials to create my base & paint with Acrylics. When it's paper, I pretreat handmade paper with tea & coffee grounds & paint with gouache. Fine details in my painting are achieved by using 000 brushes.
