ABOUT THE ARTIST

While the process I use is relatively new in glass, it is based on the thousands year old tradition of bronze casting. I pour liquid molten glass into carefully prepared sand molds, then a thin layer of colored powdered glass is laid down to color the surface of the casting. I use all recycled glass from various sources and melt it down. At 2,000 degrees, the molten glass is poured into the sand mold. It then cools for six days or more in a cooling oven before cracking open the mold to see what is revealed. Each piece of glass is then finished off with a custom-made steel base.

ABOUT THE ART

One-of-a-kind sandcast glass sculpture created by pouring 2000 degree molten glass into a special sand mold that is broken away once the glass returns to room temperature. Finished with a steel stand.
