ABOUT THE ARTIST
A child of parents who left war-torn Holland, I seek to capture stories of loss and hope, courage and strength, finding the narrative in gathered textiles from divergent cultures juxtaposed with copper, acrylic on canvas, wire and found objects. With these different materials, I find myself working with the concept of wonder, both as a noun and a verb. I wonder what this will do with that? Suddenly the piece is filled with wonder. I am looking for that exclamation mark that happens when the juxtaposition of colour, line and texture comes together to form a new creation, much like a visual poem.
ABOUT THE ART
3-dimensional assemblage sculpted, using a variety of textiles, including new, recycled and archival remnants, juxtaposed with copper, acrylic on canvas and found objects, such as willow branch, piano parts, mica and stone to create a new narrative, mounted in a museum-quality shadow box frame.
