ABOUT THE ARTIST
The printmaking process enchants me; I respect its egalitarian capability to make both information and original works of art accessible to everyone. Relief printmaking has been my primary medium for the past two decades. My process requires transferring a design to linoleum or wood; then, using a variety of gouges and knives I carve the plates removing some areas and leaving others, resulting in raised and hollowed out portions of the plate. To print the image, I apply ink to the raised portions of the plate using a brayer, and then bring the inked plate into contact with a sheet of printmaking paper and apply pressure, which transfers the wet ink on the plate to the surface of the paper. What appears on the paper is a mirror image of the carved plate. To me, this part is a bit like magic, and what initially drew me to printmaking.
ABOUT THE ART
I carve images into plates of linoleum and/or wood; then transfer the images to paper using layers of ink and pressure, which is applied with an etching press. What appears on the paper is a mirror image of the carved plate. This last part is a bit like magic.
