ABOUT THE ARTIST

Layers and patinas, marks that show through, shadows of prior shapes leaving a historical record, I love the imperfect, the slightly imbalanced, the scrapes, the story behind the top coat. My paintings celebrate the glorious messes that we all are, admit or not. I personally, as a survivor of cancer, am a battleground of scars. My post treatment struggle has been to accept the collateral scars and even see the beauty in the survival story. And I am coming to appreciate the layered depth that a history of struggles, losses and wins, battles, squirmishes, and story upon story upon story gives us, as humans. My art celebrates this. Layers, mistakes covered up, stray marks yet not without purpose, metallics peeking thru a scrape, like light pouring out a crack.

Let's not be afraid of the patinas of our lives. Imperfections can give us all freedom to breathe, connect authentically with others, and celebrate our lives lived without pretense.

ABOUT THE ART
