ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am trained in several fields of science and in the arts. I have worked as a teacher, a medical specialist, a marine biology instructor, and I have also worked for several years as a professional painter. Patterns in nature, physical processes, and the great abstract painters of the past have all helped spark my creativity.
I create bold, colorful, heavily-textured mixed media abstract paintings. My central theme considers science and patterns in nature as backdrops upon which my paintings are created. Physical processes such as melting, solution, crystallization, fluidity, outer space nebulae, microscopic images, and various organic patterns are all used as inspirations for my paintings. My paintings are made with acrylic paint, modeling paste, heavy gesso, pieces of handmade paper, metal foils, pieces of metal, various found objects, such as minerals and semiprecious stones, keys, gears, etc. All of these provide texture and interest to my paintings.
ABOUT THE ART
I create bold colorful heavy textured mixed media paintings using layers of acrylic paint, handmade paper, metal foils, fabric, and/or various found objects on canvas or board.
