ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born Bernard Mensah in 1978 but changed my name to Kwame Boama Mensa-Aborampa to fit my heritage. I was born to Ghanaian parents in the Ashanti region of Ghana but by a single mother, whose effort and resilience, propelled me to be who I am today through the small trading business she learned from my grandmother who later left it for my mother to run. My work as an artist is influenced by these strong women in my life and hence most of my open market paintings of industrious women is to pay homage to my grandmother for giving my mother the opportunity to be able to cater for me through the little that she could offer. In my mind and thoughts, nature abounds with the aesthetic fullness thereof and as an artist, I only try to mimic what is already present in nature.
I create to portray how I see nature and to exhibit artistic qualities in me. I produce works that are easily identifiable not merely through my style but through the subjects as well. The characters I portray, the stories I tell, are all part of one very elaborate narrative.

ABOUT THE ART

I expose acrylic paint to air for few hours then use my brush to apply on canvas. This gives it a heavy texture on the surface that produces a 3D effect. My style boldly shows the acrylic from a distance
