ABOUT THE ARTIST
Portraiture, whether people or animals, is the most intriguing and interesting imagery for me. I am inspired by color, nature, and patterns, so I enjoy incorporating those elements into my compositions. The effect of metal leaf in my pieces adds additional depth and dimension that goes beyond what oil paint alone can achieve. I hunt for unique or vintage frames, and sometimes meticulously repaint them for the perfect patina and rich color. Each painting has it's frame pre-chosen to enhance the composition. This body of work explores the complex relationship we have with animals and my desire to have a stronger connection to the natural world. I intertwine wildlife and women in a natural yet surreal environment that evokes and ideal world that blurs the line between reality and imagination.
ABOUT THE ART
An acrylic underpainting is created on a panel that was hand cut to fit a vintage or unique frame. Metal leaf detail is added in key areas to enhance pattern work or natural elements. The oil paint is applied with texture and movement using bristle and silicone brushes, leaving leafed areas exposed.
