ABOUT THE ARTIST
I have a BFA in painting from CCAD, and minored in papermaking and lithography. Through the years I combined these disciplines into the mixed medium pieces that I make today. I love texture and color. By layering handmade papers and acrylic paint and flexible paste medium I can build up the color saturation and organic textures that makes my paintings unique. I add the lines with watercolor crayons and color pencils and other techniques to define borders that mimic the man made borders on maps but which can't contain the organic colors fields and natural boarders as in the great outdoors.
I love to travel, especially exploring nature, from beautiful beaches to the highest mountains. Seeing as much nature as I can influences the way I paint. I am not a landscape painter but I love to convey the energy and movement of the natural world.
ABOUT THE ART
I develop my paintings out of chaos on the canvas with a layer of handmade paper. I build a design with acrylic paint and paste for a matte surface that is sanded then painted on again. I add watercolor crayons and pencils for geometric definition to the design in contrast to the organic texture.
