ABOUT THE ARTIST
Intense colors and deep shadows inspire me most. I do prefer to photograph at dawn or dusk as that is when you get longer shadows and richer color. I will paint more traditional landscapes (waterways, tress, etc.) however urban centers often spark my interest. Older buildings like those found in Philadelphia have a lot of character and can tell a story if you look closely.
My paintings are typically done in 2 layers. The first layer establishes a base of color and covers the canvas. I spend a tremendous amount of time mixing paint. The paint that was used on the first layer is saved and reused on the second layer. Most of the work is done on the second layer. I move from one section to another using tiny brushes (liner brushes especially) and a mahl stick to achieve detail. One day a car is painted, the next the side of a brick building is completed.
ABOUT THE ART
Paintings are done in 2 layers. The first layer establishes a range of colors as well as coverage of the canvas. From there each section is painted using a variety of tiny brushes. Color mixing is crucial. Patrick can mix as many as 75 colors for a painting. Patrick DOES NOT paint over photos.
