ABOUT THE ARTIST
I was an Art History and Fine Arts major at Cornell University with a MA in sculpture and am inspired by the expressive bronzes of Auguste Rodin. I have given tours at the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia. Bronze is a classical material but some of the bases I use are local Wissahickon schist and hand-cut marble. Inspired by Brancusi, I have been making bases that are incorporated into the piece. I also make pedestals of rough cut oak, pine and stone.
I am torn between the permanence of bronze and the impermanence of life and try to incorporate this dichotomy of life and nature into each piece. I have exhibited in San Francisco, New York and Paris in addition to Philadelphia.
ABOUT THE ART
I begin by making my sculptures in clay and create molds for each piece. Using the lost wax process I invest the sculpture for wax burnout and bronze casting. The shell is removed, the piece is sandblasted and a patina is applied. I cast all of my own work at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
