ABOUT THE ARTIST
I live in Clearwater Florida now, but graduated from Tulane University, acquiring a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honors in Glass & then a Master of Fine Arts at the California College of Arts and Crafts. I also studied at the Pilchuck Glass School founded by Dale Chihuly and Anne Gould Hauberg.
As I was starting my glass artistry journey, I recall seeing many functional pieces, such as kitchenware, made from glass and thinking, There wasn't a statement. There wasn't an expression, a communication, with this shape. This helped me to further actualize my journey towards glass sculpture. I was among the first artists to use traditional bronze casting methods with glass, having used and developed such practices since the 1980s. I find I look to these places and peoples of my real and imaginary forebears for the root-inspiration of much of my work.
ABOUT THE ART
One of a kind, sand cast sculptures created from 2000 degree molten glass that resonate with reference to other cultures and civilizations. Molten glass is poured into a special sand mold & is broken away once the glass returns to room temperature & is finished with a custom steel stand.
