ABOUT THE ART
I begin my paintings by sketching graphite on canvas. I then tone to slightly fill the tooth if the canvas and lock in the graphite with a watered down acrylic paint. I then apply oil paint object by object with the background being the last I paint. Lastly, I paint my borders black with acrylic.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I really enjoy painting wrinkles, whether it’s with fabric or candy bags. I paint with the canvas upside down for about 50% of the time to really abstract the forms to tie it all together. I enjoy altering the wrinkles and lighting to create my composition. I use a singular small/tiny brush for my entire painting so I can really capture all of the detail. What’s inspired me to focus on candy/snacks bags in my recent work is the response from people walking by. I love how people get excited when they see a familiar candy they like and stops them in their tracks.
