About the ART

I use a combination of stoneware clay and steel or copper. My work is individually hand built, high fired and glazed with multiple layers of traditional glazes, after which I integrate metal elements.

About the ARTIST

I am an artist. I wish I had something more profound to say about myself. I simply have a need to create things I find beautiful, or strange, or challenging, or all of the above. I put art on hold for 20 years to try and make a 'respectable living' before I realized that my need to create would die if I didn't embrace it fully. I've been a full-time sculptor for the past 9 years.
I find inspiration in the human form and how is infinitely malleable and recognizable and hard to to capture. My work often depicts the struggle of women and their innate power. I draw particularly from myths and legends for my inspiration.
My sculptures are usually a combination of stoneware clay and steel. Both allow me to work directly with my hands allowing me to use bold and decisive movements. Both materials come from the ground and require fire to complete the work. However, the two materials the typically do not play well together. It has made me develop techniques to join the two together in the final creation of the work. Often, I will weld the steel through the fired clay or use a third material as bridge.
