ABOUT THE ART
With sticks and brushes, I create multiple layers of oil and acrylic on large format birch panel, using a variety of sheens. Gold, silver, and copper metallics are integrated to create textured abstractions of sun-streaked skies and the glint of sun and moonlight on large bodies of moving water.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
My approach to painting originated in childhood with a favorite activity of turning paints mixed with assorted pantry items into artworks. My 'style' progressed with an art-infused Montessori education through grade school, then a BA in Studio Art from UT Austin in 2011. My natural inclination is to experiment with materials. Using sticks and brushes, I combine oils and acrylics with gold, silver, copper, and bronze metallics into graphic yet painterly abstractions of natural environments on large format birch panel. My current series of paintings, The Melts, presents unique striations of color and metallics as waves breaking on the ocean, dawn and sunset skies, cracking ice, and flowing lava. Water-themed works capture the glint of sun and moonlight on rolling tides, breaking surf, rippling lake waters, whitewater rapids, waterfalls, and the open sea. Creating distinctive depictions of the fleeting interactions between sun, moon, water, earth, wind, and fire is my goal.
