I utilize a variety of tiny brushes to achieve detail. A mahl stick is used most of the time to keep my hand steady. Blick brand liner brushes are used frequently. A lot of time is dedicated to mixing. Sides are painted in acrylic.

About the ARTIST
I am inspired by the everyday. I grew up in the Bucks County suburbs. When I was in grade school I saw buildings in Philadelphia for the first time and felt inspired. I suppose I was struck by them because it was something different than the suburban environment I was used to.
The age of the buildings tell a story. Days with no cloud cover create sharply edged shadows. Dawn and dusk scenes can be especially dramatic.
Photography is a way to capture these moments. Once in the studio I feel the painting come to life.
Mixing color is done first. The first layer of paint establishes composition and color. The painting is relatively flat in the first layer. The second layer is where most of the work gets done. Colors that were mixed for the first layer get remixed and modified for the second layer. For the second layer I break the painting down into sections. Each section is meticulously painted using tiny brushes. A mahl stick is used frequently in order to keep my hand steady.
